C-8 Health Project

Brookmar, Inc. was appointed by the Wood County Circuit Court as part of the Settlement Agreement in a class action lawsuit, Leach, et al. v. E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company to conduct the C-8 Health Project. The purpose of the C-8 Health Project was to collect health data from Class Members of the lawsuit through written questionnaires and a battery of blood tests, including a test to ascertain the amount of C-8 in the blood. The C-8 Health Project began testing on July 27, 2205.

The Science Panel was also appointed by the Wood County Circuit Court as a part of the Settlement Agreement. Its purpose is to conduct a Community Study to determine whether or not there is a probable link between exposure to C-8 in drinking water and human disease. The Science Panel, as part of the Community Study, will examine and analyze the health data collected by Brookmar in order to determine whether the data suggest that C-8 exposure is related to disease. The Science Panel is made up of three prominent epidemiologists, Tony Fletcher, Ph.D., David Savitz, Ph.D., and Kyle Steenland, Ph.D. Epidemiologists are specially trained in the conduct and interpretation of research to evaluate the possible relationships between environmental factors and the occurrence of disease.

Brookmar, Inc. has now completed the gathering of data for the C-8 Health Project. All non-identifiable health data from the Project will be delivered to the Science Panel for the completion of a Community Study. Statistical data will be released to the public in the near future. Identifiable health data will be released to the Science Panel for those Participants who gave additional specific consents. A single list linking Participants’ names to the unique identification number assigned by Brookmar will be sealed and deposited with the Wood County Circuit Court. Access to this list is through the Wood County Circuit Court.
