C8 Press Release

Beginning in July 2005, the C8 Health Project administered by Robert G. Astorg, C.P.A. and conducted by Brookmar, Inc. began the process of collecting blood samples and health status questionnaires from over 69,000 of the Class Members who consumed water from six water districts and certain private wells adjacent to the Ohio River in West Virginia and Ohio. The goal of the C8 Health Project was to collect data as part of a settlement agreement in the lawsuit between E. I. duPont de Nemours and Co. and the Class Members.

The C8 Health Project contracted with the Department of Community Medicine and other researchers at West Virginia University to communicate summary results to project participants, the Class Members and the public. The summary data from this collaborative effort will be made public over the next few months at www.c8healthproject.org.

As pledged by Brookmar, Inc. to over 69,000 participants, no personal health information will be disclosed; only summary data about the participating population. Summary health information will be presented in three phases. Phase 1 will describe the C8 Health Project, the demographics of the participating population, and summarize medical laboratory values of the participants. Phase 2 will describe medical diagnoses. Summary data will include diagnoses which were validated by medical-record review of consenting participants, as well as diagnoses which could not be validated. Phase 3 will include a population view of C8 levels, together with levels of other related chemicals, lab values and diagnoses.

The web site will be updated through early autumn 2007. Visitors will be able to use the web site to provide comments.

Access to these reports is through Brookmar’s web site: www.c8healthproject.org.
